Workshop on risk information for early detection and control of foot-and-mouth disease and vaccine availability in North Africa/Near East

In the framework of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) prevention and control, the EuFMD team organised a workshop on risk information for early detection and control of foot-and-mouth disease and vaccine availability in North Africa/Near East. It held at Hammamet, in Tunisia, from 25th to 27th November, 2024. As FMD prevention and control are related to the availability of information for a regular monitoring of risks, the capacity to early detect the introduction or/and spread of the virus, and the availability of good quality vaccines, this workshop was an opportunity to discuss specific issues regarding FMD prevention and control, the actions implemented, and possible improvements at country and regional level. It allowed a better definition of the support that EuFMD and GF-TADs partners can provide, according to the needs and the resources available and considering the current epidemiological situation.

The participants of the workshop were:

  • REPIVET focal points and RELABSA focal points from North African countries (Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia and Lybia)
  • Experts of the Regional Group for Vaccination Advice, guidance and consultation (GVA) for North Africa.
  • REMESA secretariat
  • ANSES
  • EuFMD

Each participant from each country provided a short  presentation during the workshop, covering the following points: FMD current epidemiological situation, surveillance and control measures in place, vaccine availability and vaccination strategy.
